Limacodidae is a family of moths commonly known as slug moths because their caterpillars resemble slugs in both shape and movement. The family contains some 1800 species. The adults are small to medium-sized moths with stout, hairy bodies, and their short and broad, wings are sometimes held tent-like over the body. The bright coloration and venomous spines of the caterpillars deter predators, and their slug-like locomotion helps them cling to surfaces and makes them less conspicuous.
