A genus of moth in the Geometridae family. These ae small to medium-sized geometrid moths, which display a sexual dimorphism that is similar to the genus Erannis. The males have well-developed wings, usually mottled brown, grey, or reddish with crosslines and cryptic patterns for camouflage against bark. However, the females in many species, wings are greatly reduced or entirely absent, leaving them flightless. They remain near their emergence sites and release pheromones to attract males. Caterpillars feed on a wide range of deciduous trees and shrubs, including oak (Quercus), elm (Ulmus), hawthorn (Crataegus), and birch (Betula). The eggs overwinter with the larvae emerge in spring, coinciding with budburst of host plants. Adults typically appear in late winter to early spring.
