Submitted by walwyn
Sargus is a genus of soldier flies in the Stratiomyidae family. They typically range from 7 to 14 mm in length, with a broad, flattened body with a shiny metallic green or bronze thorax and a contrasting abdomen that may be dark brown, violet, or greenish, often with a subtle sheen. The head is wide, with large compound eyes that are holoptic (touching) in males and separated in females, featuring a hairy texture. A key visual trait is the presence of two white or yellowish spots (ocelli-like markings) on the frons, above the antennae.
