Arthur James Memorial Window - Churchover Warwickshire

This memorial stained-glass window, executed c. 1918 by Arild Rosenkrantz, commemorates Arthur James (d. 1918) and is installed in the parish church at Churchover, Warwickshire. The date and dedication place the work firmly within the immediate aftermath of the First World War, a context that strongly informs both its iconography and emotional tenor.

Carron, Pierre

Pierre Carron (1932–2022) was a French painter, sculptor, and stained-glass artist whose work bridges the traditions of classical figurative painting and monumental sacred art. Born in Fécamp, Normandy, he studied at the École régionale des Beaux-Arts in Le Havre and the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris before entering the École des Beaux-Arts in 1951 under Raymond Legueult. Carron quickly established himself as one of France’s most gifted young artists, winning the Prix de la Critique in 1957 and the Grand Prix de Rome in 1960.

Chagall, Marc

Marc Chagall (1887–1985) was a Russian-born French artist whose work occupies a distinctive position within twentieth-century modernism. Drawing on Jewish tradition, biblical narrative, folklore, and personal memory, he developed a poetic visual language characterised by intense colour, floating figures, and symbolic imagery. Although active across painting, printmaking, ceramics, tapestry, and stage design, Chagall is particularly celebrated for his stained-glass windows, which form one of the most significant modern contributions to the medium.

The two windows in the north wall of the chancel in the Saxon church of All Saints, Brixworth are by Burlison & Grylls , dated 1913 and 1915, they are from the first quarter of the 20th century.

Courageux, Claude

Born in August 8, 1938 in Beuavais, Claude Courageux was educated at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He spent a number of years working with other glass makers in Paris,  including working with Max Ingrand, and seven years working at the firm of Jacques Gruber.
