Orthoptera

This Order of insects with over 17,000 species, of which 650 are found mostly in southern Europe, the UK has just 30 species. The order consists of the Grasshoppers, Crickets, and Locusts. They are large insects with a blunt head and saddle shaped pronotum.

Osmia

This genus is commonly called the mason bees. They nest in cavities which they sometimes excavate themselves and build the cells by gluing sand or mud together with their saliva. They can often be found nesting in walls where the mortar has become soft.
