About

About this site

Professor-Moriarty.com is a long-term digital catalogue devoted to insect taxonomy and European medieval and Renaissance art and architecture. It brings together original photography, object-based description, and structured organisation to support reference, comparative study, and close visual analysis.

Content is added and revised incrementally, reflecting ongoing research rather than a fixed publication programme.

Entomology

The entomology section presents a structured catalogue of insects, organised taxonomically from order to species. Entries typically include diagnostic description, distributional information, notes on behaviour or host associations where known, and photographic documentation derived from field observation.

Taxonomic hierarchy provides the primary framework for navigation and reference.

Art and architecture

The art-historical section documents medieval and Renaissance art and architecture, with particular emphasis on France, Italy, and Britain. Recorded objects include stained glass, sculpture, monuments, architectural elements, and wall painting, documented through site photography and close formal analysis.

Entries are written to allow individual works to be read within their wider historical and artistic contexts.

Photography and use of images

Unless otherwise stated, all photographs on the site are the author’s own work. Images are made available under a Creative Commons non-commercial licence and may be reused for research, teaching, and other non-commercial purposes with appropriate attribution.

Higher-resolution images may be made available on request.

Structure and scope

Content is organised using hierarchical and thematic structures. Many pages include additional image material accessible via a gallery view.

The site is bilingual (English / French) where translations are available. Coverage is selective and cumulative rather than exhaustive.
