Rush Veneer Moth
Rush Veneer (Nomophila noctuella)

Nomophila is a genus of moths in the Crambidae family.

These are medium-sized moths, with a wingspan typically 20–35 mm. Their forewings are long and narrow, usually light brown to gray, with darker mottled or wavy markings, whilst the hindwings are often whitish or light gray, with a darker margin. At rest the wings are held roof-like over the body at rest, giving a streamlined appearance, and the body is long and slender, adapted for sustained flight. They are strong fliers, mostly active at night, and some species are capable of long-distance dispersal or migration. The larvae feed on low plants, often in the legume and aster families; some can be minor pests in agriculture. The most common species of the genus is the Rush Veneer which is found across Europe, Africa, Asia, and often observed in large numbers during summer and autumn migration.
