Megachile is a genus of leafcutter bees that occurs worldwide. Some species of Megachile neatly cut pieces of leaves or petals, hence their common name.

This genus is commonly called the mason bees. They nest in cavities which they sometimes excavate themselves and build the cells by gluing sand or mud together with their saliva. They can often be found nesting in walls where the mortar has become soft.
